The story of Ahalya is very popular in the Hindu mythology. She was cursed by her husband, sage Gautama Maharishi, and turned into a stone. She worshipped Lord Rama for redemption, and it was him who finally liberated her from her curse. This painting portrays Ahalya, still trapped in the stone, and Lord Rama blessing her to absolve her of her guilt.
