Ajoy+Ghosh

Born in Barishal, now in Bangladesh, Ajoy Ghose had his career in art determined at an early age. His aptitude for drawing was discovered when he was still in his elementary school. Ajoy’s father, a noted educationist, supported the move. After joining the Government Art College in Calcutta in 1955, Ajoy came under the loving spell of Dhiren Brahma, a living legend among artists devoted to Bengal School and eager to chart new territories within its philosophical expanse. Later on, Ajoy had the benefit of learning from Satyendrandth Bandopadhaya and also from Benode Behari Mukherjee in Santiniketan whom he regularly visited between 1957 and 1971. Influence of Dhiren Brahma and Benode Behari together played a stellar role in shaping Ajoy Ghose’s philosophy in art.

As part of his professional career, Ajoy held the position as the Former Head of the department of Drawing and Painting, Indian style at the Government College of Art and Craft from 1982-1998. His other professional experiences included serving as a member of the Board of Council and Faculty Council at the University of Calcutta, and as a member of Rajya Charukala Parshad, Govt. of West Bengal.

Ajoy participated in multitude of exhibitions in his lifelong career including fifty National Level Exhibitions, twenty State Level Exhibitions, Ten Group Shows and Three Solo exhibitions. His awards and accolades included:

His paintings are in Collection in India and globally, including - the UK, USA, Japan, and Germany.

Ajoy attended, published and presented widely in various seminars and workshops on art and art history. His paintings were auctioned in Bonhem (London), and Browing, New Delhi.
